Iain Wyllie may be better known to some as the artist behind some of the spectacular airbrushed aircraft illustrations that have been published in a number of books in large gatefold format. He is also though the talent behind the cover artwork of Osprey’s highly successful Aircraft of the Aces book series. This volume showcases 30 of these paintings, each being used to help tell the story of a particular World War Two Ace.
The book begins with forewords by both Air Commodore Peter Brothers and Colonel E ‘Bud’ Anderson, and introductions by the artist and author Tony Holmes. Each Ace is then presented with a full page painting, an aircraft profile by the same artist, text by the author incorporating comments from the pilot’s notes, a short bio of the pilot and a technical specification of the aircraft. Overall this is an excellent reference work that is easy and enjoyable to read.
Condition: this is a new unread copy from our stocks but it has picked up a small mark on the front cover, about 1 cm long and close to the spine - hence the reduced price.
