This book chronicles the combat exploits of the RAF from World War I up to the Gulf War. A total of 39 different events are covered with an appropriate painting used to illustrate each one.
The introduction is by Air Chief Marshal Sir Michael Armitage. This is followed by a brief biograhpy of each of the 14 contributing artists and 14 contributing authors. The artists include David Shepherd, Michael Turner, Frank Wooton and John Young whilst the authors include noted historians and RAF experts. Each battle or campaign has one page dedicated to the colour artwork and three pages of text by the author that includes a map. Overall this book is an interesting combination of historic record and aviation art.
