An RAF Lancaster struggles for height over the North Sea as it returns from a raid over Germany. Having fallen a long way behind the main formation the wounded bomber is now exposed by the rising sun; with one engine out and the prop feathered and another engine smoking, its crew pray quietly for the sight of landfall - all fingers are crossed !
