Misty Morning by Philip West

Misty Morning by Philip West features Lancasters of 35 Squadron being prepared by ground crew.

The Avro Lancaster was designed from the outset to build a bomber capable of reaching the heartland of the enemy. Put this together with Rolls Royce Merlin engines, and a superlative aircraft was born. No less than 59 Bomber Command units saw active service with the Lancaster, flying 156,000 sorties. Some 7377 aircraft were built by six factories producing five different variants of the Lancaster. Here is a typical wartime scene. Lancaster's from 35 Squadron are being prepared for yet another Pathfinder mission, with the ground crew busy servicing, rearming and refuelling the aircraft.

Each print in Philip West's Limited Edition, Misty Morning, is signed by veteran Lancaster pilot:
Flt Lt Phil Ainley DFC.

Lysanders of 161 Special Operations Squadron turn onto their final course to a clandestine landing field somewhere in central occupied France, during a full moon period in 1943. Based at Tempsford, Bedfordshire and often operating from Tangmere to shorten the flight, the pilots flew a dead reckoning course to their first turning point, usually on the River Loire, using rudimentary navigating equipment. The moonlit town of Blois is easily distinguishable by its chateau, churches and bridge with the Forest of Chambord beyond. The agents in the rear cockpit prepare themselves by torchlight for the forthcoming landing. Each print in Philip West's Limited Edition, Loire Rendevouz, is signed by four highly distinguished Lysander pilots: Flt. Lt Peter Arkell, OBE, USAF Medal of Distinction Flt Lt. Murray Anderson, DFC*, US Air Medal Flt. Lt. R G 'Bob' Large, DFC, Legion d'honneur Sir Lewis Hodges, KCB, CBE, DSO, DFC.Subject: Special Operations Westland Lysander.
