No Empty Bunks Tonight by William S Phillips features a B-24 Liberator straggler returning to base in England.
Running dangerously low on fuel, 'Tail End Charlie' begins its descent for home. The last plane in an aircraft formation, 'Tail End Charlie' is usually the one most vulnerable to attack. The crew of 478, racing through war-torn skies above Britain and the English Channel, has survived flak, fighters, thunderstorms and the bone-chilling cold of high altitude battle, to complete yet another in a long series of missions. Ahead is the welcome homecoming of debriefing, hot meals and a warm bed. For the 478 crew, there will be no empty bunks tonight.
The B-24 depicted in No Empty Bunks Tonight belonged to the 578th Bomb Squadron, 392nd Bomb Group, 2nd Division, 8th Air Force, based out of Wendling, England in 1944.
Released by the Greenwich Workshop in 1989, this spectacular print sold out many years ago and is difficult to find on the secondary market.
Condition - this print has a noticeable area of creasing on the right hand white border. It is on the outer edge of the print and runs from the top of the print down about 10 cm - it is 2 cm wide approx (the border is 38 mm in total). There are are few other soft handling imperfections on the print but they are not visible - you can only see where they are by looking on the back of the print. The print otherwise has no marks, it has never been framed and has been stored flat and dark for many years - the image area in has bright, unfaded 'as new' colours, the faults would be easily concealed by framing.
This would be ideal for someone wanting a modestly priced example of this magnificent print for framing and display.
It comes with the original Certificate of Authenticity. Normal price for a perfect example of this print would be around £200.
The faults would be difficult to show in a photograph, however the print is covered by our 'No Quibble Guarantee' so if its not as you expected you can return it for a full refund.
