Fine limited edition print by Michael Turner featuring Spitfires during the Battle of Britain.
In this timeless classic by Michael Turner the sound of Merlin engines rises above the calm of a warm summer's evening as RAF Spitfires return from the last sortie of the day during the Battle of Britain, 1940.
Published in 1988, this commemorative edition was limited to 1494 copies, each one commemorating an RAF aircrew loss during the Battle of Britain, as recorded at the Battle of Britain Memorial Chapel in Westminster Abbey.
It is signed by three legendary Battle of Britain pilots:
Squadron Leader Ginger Lacey DFM (501 Squadron Hurricanes)
Group Captain Brian Kingcome DSO DFC (92 Squadron Spitfires)
Wing Commander Paddy Barthropp DFC AFC (602 Squadron Spitfires).
Condition: this print has two or three very soft handling kinks in the lower border areas. It also has two harder creases in the lower part of the image area, about 1.5 - 2 cm each, one on the right side of the print and one on the very edge of the left side. They are very hard to spot unless you know where to look - at a normal viewing angle and distance they are not visible, but can be seen if you look along the print edgeways - they would not be visible if framed. In all other respects the print is perfect - it has never been framed and has been stored flat and dark resulting in no fading at all. The signatures are all in perfect condition. It is supplied with the original Certificate of Authenticity.
The faults would be difficult to show in a photograph - however the print is covered by our 'No Quibble Guarantee' so if its not as you expected you can return it for a full refund.
Normal secondary market price for this print range from £150-400 depending on condition. We are selling this print on behalf of one of our long-standing collectors - it would look superb framed but it is worth the price for the original signatures alone.
