Collector's autograph display featuring the original signature of Air Chief Marshal Sir GUS WALKER DSO DFC AFC - RAF Bomber Command.
Sir Gus Walker, decorated for his leadership on low-level bombing raids, was an England International rugby player but tragically lost an arm as he typically and unhesitatingly rushed to help rescue the crew of a burning Lancaster on fire on the runway when its 4000lb bomb exploded. Gus Walker was a bomber pilot from the early days of the war flying Hampdens, Wellingtons, Halifaxes and Lancasters operationally. Known for his cheerfulness and 'press-on' attitude, he was a popular officer that had all the attributes for high command. Retiring after the war an Air Chief Marshal, he subsequently became ADC to King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II.
