Spitfire Country by Nicolas Trudgian features Spitfires of 603 Squadron and a downed Me109.
A typical scene from a bright August morning in that momentous summer of 1940. Having climbed into the dawn sky at daybreak, the Spitfires of No 603 Squadron have already been in action, and with more heavy raids on the plotters table, they scurry back to Biggin Hill to re-arm and refuel. A Messerschmitt Me109, shot down during the previous day’s fighting, lies discarded in a hay field, its lucky pilot having escaped with his life. Meanwhile, the beautiful Kent countryside comes awake as it prepares for the toils of another glorious summer's day.
Nicolas Trudgian's Limited Edition, Spitfire Country, is signed by three highly respected pilots who flew in the Battle of Britain with 603 Squadron:
Flight Lieutenant Ludwik Martel
Wing Commander Peter Oliver
Squadron Leader Basil Stapleton.
Published over 20 years this print sold out some time ago and is becoming increasingly difficult to find.
Condition: this print has a handling kink in the lower area where Basil Stapleton's signature is - it is not immediately obvious if you are not looking for it. There is also a little damage and marking to the outer edge of the right hand white border. The faults would not be noticeable if the print was framed. Otherwise the print is in perfect condition having never been framed and having been stored flat and dark at room temperature. This is a quite spectacular print - one of Nicolas Trudgian's best - it would be ideal for someone wanting a modestly priced example of this magnificent print for framing and display.
It comes with the original Certificate of Authenticity. Normal price for a perfect secondary market example of this print would be £250-300.
The faults would be difficult to see in a photograph, however the print is covered by our 'No Quibble Guarantee' so if its not as you expected you can return it for a full refund.
Note: the 'Nicolas Trudgian' logo on the bottom right of the image does not appear on the actual print itself.
