The Great Patriotic War by Richard Taylor features columns of Soviet armour moving westward.
Despite stiff and bitter resistance from the retreating German army, Soviet forces continue their dogged advance westwards towards Berlin.
Richard’s dramatic edition recalls the fierce battles that took part along the Eastern Front during WWII. Completed in his trademark technique using a mixture of graphite with colour highlights on antique-style buff paper, this stunning piece acts as a tribute to all those who served in this decisive confrontation.
In recognition of all those who helped determine the outcome of the war in Europe by fighting on the Eastern Front, each print is conservation mounted to include the original autographs of four famous fighter pilots who took on the might of Hitler's Luftwaffe over Russia:
Lieutenant General ARSENY VASIL’YEVITCH VOROZHEIKIN - a highly-regarded and experienced Russian Ace, he scored 52 victories in almost 500 combat missions and was twice decorated Hero of the Soviet Union.
Major General KONSTANTIN MIKHAILOVITCH TRESHYOV - already in the air over Russia when the Great Patriotic War officially began, he went on to complete 556 missions, scored 28 victories and was decorated Hero of the Soviet Union.
General JOSEPH RISSO - Frenchman Risso originally flew with the RAF before serving on the Eastern Front as part of the first Normandie-Niémen Squadron, he scored 11 victories in over 600 missions.
Lieutenant JACQUES DE SAINT PHALLE - escaping occupied France he joined the Free French Air Force and flew over 100 missions on the Eastern Front with the Normandie-Niémen Squadron, scoring 1 victory.
