This special collector's autograph display commemorating the successful mission by Bomber Command to sink the German battleship Tirpitz, includes the original signatures of J.B 'Willie' Tait and Danny Daniels.
For many months the mere presence of the mighty German capital ship anchored off the coast of Norway caused great concern to Britain's military command - it was tying up resources and compromising relief convoys to northern Russia. The historic daylight attack on the Tirpitz in Alten Fjord on 12 November 1944 was led by Wing Commander J.B “Willie” Tait. A formation of 31 Lancaster bombers from 617 and 9 Squadrons attacked the German battleship from 11,000 feet, each dropping a tall-boy bomb. Tait’s bomb aimer, Flying Officer Danny Daniels, was credited with a direct hit and the Tirpitz took on a noticeable list. The great battleship later rolled over and sank.
This beautiful double mounted display includes metal RAF wings, miniature replica gallantry awards, artwork by Darryl Legg and of course the original signatures of famous Bomber Command veterans Wing Commander J.B 'Willie' Tait and Flying Officer Danny Daniels - sure to increase in value over time this would make the perfect gift for any historic aviation enthusiast.
