This book tells the story of a century of powered flight that started when the Wright Brothers first took to the air on 17 December 1903. 100 paintings by a selection of artists illustrate subjects ranging from the earliest wood and canvas aircraft to the most recent stealth bombers.
After a foreword by Sir Peter G Masefield and an introduction by Peter March, the body of the book takes each year in turn, a narrative summary of the key aviation advances of the year is complimented by a diary giving dates of key events, and a full colour plate of a painting relevant to the period. Artists include Taylor, Trudgian, Coulson, Ferris, Turner, Wong and Postlethwaite. Presentation is excellent, in summary this is a good combination of useful reference and some fine examples of aviation art.
