Collector's autograph display featuring the original signature of GERHARD THYBEN Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves - Luftwaffe Fighter Ace.
Like all Luftwaffe pilots, Gerhard Thyben flew operationally almost without a break after qualifying in 1941. Between joining 6./JG 3 on the Eastern Front and the end of the war he flew 385 operational missions. Gerhard Thyben's first air victory was in early 1943 on the Eastern Front when he downed a Douglas Boston. His score rose rapidly and on a single day in May he shot down a Spitfire and a P-39 Airacobra while flying with JG 3. After a spell in the West based at Amsterdam when he shot down three P-38 Lightnings in a single combat, he returned to join JG 54 flying the Fw190 in the East. By the war's end his victory total had risen to 156.
