Collector's autograph display featuring the original signature of Major ADOLF GALLAND Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves Swords and Diamonds - Luftwaffe Fighter Ace - Hall of Fame Collection.
General Adolf 'Dolfo' Galland commanded III./JG 26 during the Battle of France, led 3 squadrons of JG 26's Me109 fighters throughout the Battle of Britain, then commanded the wing's 9 squadrons of fighters based near Abbeville, Northern France. JG 26 was nominated by Luftwaffe supremo, Herman Goering, as "the finest fighter unit in the Luftwaffe". Adolf Galland was promoted to Inspector General of Germany's Fighter Arm in 1941, becoming responsible for all Luftwaffe day and night fighters and, at age 29, became the youngest General in the German High Command. But after incessant disputes with Goering over fighter tactics Galland was sacked in 1944 and, on Hitler's orders, formed his famous JV 44 Wing, flying Me262 jets in the final Defence of the Reich. Revered by his pilots, greatly admired for his leadership, Adolf Galland was the only General in history to lead an operational fighter wing in aerial combat.
