P-51 Mustangs of the 335th Fighter Squadron, Fourth Fighter Group.
In the later stages of World War II, fighter aircraft of the US Eighth and Ninth Air Forces ranged over occupied Europe, primarily on strategic bomber escort and ground attack missions. On a typical ground attack mission over Germany in the autumn of 1944, these P-51s, having successfully intercepted an armoured column, head for home keeping a constant look out for further targets of opportunity.
