Collector's autograph display featuring the original signature of Air Marshal Sir DENNIS CROWLEY-MILLING DSO DFC* - RAF Battle of Britain Pilot - Hall of Fame Collection.
Dennis 'Crow' Crowley-Milling saw action at Dunkirk and with Douglas Bader's 242 Sqn Hurricanes in the Duxford Wing during the Battle of Britain. He was later recruited by Bader to join his Spitfire Wing at Tangmere, where he flew with 610 Sqn. He was shot down over northern France in August 1941, managed to evade capture and made an adventurous return to his squadron via the Pyrenees mountains and Spain. In September 1942 'Crow' formed No 181 Sqn, the RAF's first Typhoon Bomber unit, tasked with attacking German airfields, marshalling yards and other low-level targets in France, Belgium and the Low Countries. In April 1943 his Typhoons' bombs destroyed an entire squadron of Me109s when they were caught taking off. The Typhoon, originally designed as a high altitude fighter, was rated the best low-level ground-attack aircraft of WWII.
