This special collector's autograph display commemorating the legendary Dambusters Raid by Bomber Command includes the original signatures of MICK MARTIN and DAVID SHANNON.
Operation Chastise, the daring attack on German dams was carried out on the night of 16-17th May 1943 by RAF 617 Squadron, later to be universally know as the Dambusters. The 'bouncing bomb' developed by Barnes Wallis was fitted to specially modified Lancasters.
Mick Martin was Guy Gibson’s deputy leader on Operation Chastise, Martin’s aircraft being the third to run in on the Mohne Dam. David Shannon’s run was called off as the dam was breached but carried on to be the first aircraft to strike the Eder Dam. Both Lancaster pilots were awarded the DSO for their part in the raid.
